I am making an initial posting about my intentions for restarting Sykoradio after a year long break. This is an opportunity for those who enjoyed the radio before to share your likes and dislikes of the previous system with some ideas on how to change it.
I will keep this short as I have a tendency to go on and on and on. Sykoradio ended for a variety of reasons which include the start of royalty payments, inconsistent scheduling procedures, clunky web interface, rising support costs, declining listener count, high dj participation requirements, and inability to manage and organize podcasts/shows/promotion. I take responsibility for a a lot of this as I basically went from being a full-time professional soldier to being a somewhat poor student who had to divide my time amongst school, work, teaching high school, and life. So here are my plans for 2009 in order of completion:
- + provide classic sykoradio shows as podcasts (interviews and shows like Cyanotic, Keenan Baxter, Hatred Hurt Itself interviews)
- + introduce sykoradio as a new review orientated, podcast centered site focusing on members, local and upcoming groups
- + provide new podcasts (bi-monthly) with hour long shows provided by members and guests
- + recreate a new site with a single 96kbps stream for "live" shows for increased audience interaction
Having a sykoradio on-demand stream is not possible until there is a reasonable amount of listener support due to server fees and the new royalty payment laws. The only way we could exist as an on-demand source is through donations from listeners and other bands. The advantage is we can use our existing member base on Myspace and through Sykospark.net to further provide a source for members and fun. I want to have a music, talk, review based site open to all members with little commitment on a regular basis unless they desire it.
